CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) is a video surveillance system used to monitor and record activity in specific areas for security, safety, and monitoring purposes. Unlike broadcast television, CCTV systems transmit video signals to a limited set of monitors and recording devices, making them a “closed” system that isn’t accessible to the public.

CCTV systems typically consist of:

  • Cameras: These can be analog or digital (IP cameras) and vary in type — dome cameras, bullet cameras, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, and more. They capture video footage of the monitored area.
  • Recording Devices: DVRs (Digital Video Recorders) and NVRs (Network Video Recorders) store and manage video feeds. DVRs work with analog cameras, while NVRs connect with IP cameras.
  • Monitors: Screens used to view live or recorded footage from the cameras.
  • Cables or Wireless Connections: For transmitting video data between cameras, recorders, and monitors.

Modern CCTV systems often include features like motion detection, night vision, remote access via mobile apps, cloud storage, and AI-based analytics for facial recognition or object detection. CCTV is widely used in homes, businesses, public spaces, and industrial facilities to deter crime, enhance safety, and provide evidence in case of incidents.
